Self Care Ideas for Summer
Summer has officially settled in! And while most people are taking vacations and days off to spend with loved ones, many people are looking for local, inexpensive or fun & simple things to do.
One of the best ways that you can spend your time is prioritizing your self care. This can look like a variety of different activities depending on your personality and interests.
Let's talk about 4 self-care ideas that you can consider adding to your calendar this summer.
Take a refreshing bath
Depending on where you live, chances are that the weather has spiked and you might feel hot & sticky if you’re spending some time outdoors. If you find yourself showering more in the summer or craving a nice rinse, then you may want to consider preparing a nice bath for yourself.
Baths are not only relaxing, but you can add different essences such as salts, essential oils, rose petals, bubbles, or herbs to make it feel extra soothing. What feels better than getting clean while relaxing your muscles and getting still & comfortable. Add in some jazz or R&B music along with a lit candle and you have your very own spa vibe going on. You’ll feel so good the next time you step outside in that heat wave.
Go for a hike or nature walk
Summer is the best time to enjoy the longer days, soak up the sun, and enjoy the full bloom of nature. While hiking can sound like such a difficult workout, it doesn’t necessarily have to mean a challenging hill or trail. You can find a beautiful nature walk that just allows you to be present and disconnect from distractions like your phone, overthinking or overly populated landmarks.
Sit by a body of water, climb up to see a breathtaking view, or sit under some trees for a nice cool breeze. Wherever you are, nature will allow you to feel safe, calm and grounded.
Find a wellness event
Summer is great time to find events going on in your area or in a city. Think about what activities bring you a sense of joy, peace, self-discovery or grounding. There are wellness events always being hosted by your local fitness instructors, nutritionists, yogis, healers & self-care advocates. You just have to seek them out!
I’m hosting a Self Care & Wellness Brunch on August 11th in Ridgefield, NJ. If you’re in New Jersey or New York, check it out.
Take a stay-cation
Sometimes we can’t always take the big trip or vacation. This could be due to finances, available days off, travel availability, or life events. One thing I’ve learned is that a vacation is whatever you make it. Sometimes just taking a day off from everything and spending it at home watching your favorite movies, ordering in, and reading your favorite book can feel like a better vacation than 3 days in a crowded city.
A stay-cation can also look like heading to a spa for the day and spending a night at a hotel closely. It’s all about doing a bit less while giving yourself a bit more time to just tend to YOU. Get creative and write down what your perfect day looks like and turn that into a stay-cation idea.
Now that you have a few ideas brewing, start planning and put a date or two in your calendar. Remember that self care is a necessity, just like eating and sleeping. We must take care of our well-being in order to live happy and healthy lives.
